Case study | Bakkerij Fuite: Baking tradition meets packaging innovation

Bakkerij Fuite, a company with roots dating back nearly a century, has undergone an impressive transformation. What began as a small, local bakery in IJsselmuiden has grown into a major player in the European bread market.

Over the past decades, Fuite has successfully adapted to shifting market demands. After a period of focusing on its own retail outlets, the bakery transitioned to the fast-growing foodservice market. By partnering with key industry players, Fuite began supplying bread to airlines and industrial processors across Europe.

The need for change

With growing demand came higher volumes of erected boxes. To keep up, Fuite began receiving larger weekend stock deliveries from their cardboard supplier, requiring more storage space. Where they once used 5,000 trays weekly, that number quickly doubled to 10,000. To address these logistical challenges, Fuite’s cardboard supplier suggested investing in a Boix tray forming machine, allowing them to erect their own trays in-house. This move enabled real-time tray forming, saved storage space, and significantly reduced costs — flat-packed blanks are not only cheaper than pre-assembled boxes, but they also reduce transport costs.

The key to growth

In order to meet the rising demand, Fuite needed to optimise its packaging processes. The collaboration with Boix proved to be a gamechanger. With the help of robust and reliable machines like the Boix Q-1530 and Q-1800/P, Fuite was able to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and maintain high product quality.

Thanks to Boix, Fuite has been able to:

  • Scale production: Automated packaging has significantly increased production capacity.
  • Reduce costs: Using flat-packed boxes and cutting down on manual labour led to notable savings.
  • Work more sustainably: Flat-pack trays reduce material waste and are easier to recycle.
  • Adapt with flexibility: Boix machines handle a variety of box types, allowing Fuite to meet different customer needs.

A stronger future together Bakkerij Fuite & Boix

With their streamlined packaging process, Bakkerij Fuite has grown its market share across Europe. Lower production costs allowed them to offer more competitive pricing, helping strengthen their position. As the business expanded rapidly — from 10,000 to 20,000 trays per week — Fuite continued to invest in scalable solutions.

The Boix Q-1800/P, with its automatic format changeover, is the latest addition to their production line — delivering even greater flexibility and efficiency. This forward-looking investment ensures Fuite is well-equipped for future growth.
